The world is my country. Mankind are my brethren. And to do good is my religion.
For now, I'm going back to my native for some time but not because I don't love this place. But because every once in a while I need to be among those who speak my language, share my sense of humour and understand my cultural needs.
To touch base is to recharge my batteries. And when my batteries are recharged I am able to recharge those of others who need me to do so.
Will I miss my asian friends? Those who treat me as one of their own family? Those who share their bread and their water with me? Yes, yes, yes. I will miss them all so, so much. I will miss my friends, I will miss my colleagues, I will miss my employees; and I will so miss the 250 slum children I have come to call my own and who refer to me so beautifully. Some say Nana, some say bapu....
But in my absence I will say this. Each and every one of these wonderful people are in my heart, and will be in my thoughts every single day. As an old prayer says:
"Lord please care for me while I am away, and take care of those I love in my absence". |
